Obnoxious Alderman 1, 24th District 0

Ald. Dixon gets driver's license back

Judge rules her license was improperly suspended in January

By Kim Janssen, Chicago Tribune, May 22, 2009

Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) was back behind the wheel Thursday evening after a judge ruled her license was improperly suspended when she was arrested for drunken driving in January [after a long night of Obama inauguration eve festivities].

Dixon allegedly smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests after arguing for half an hour with four Chicago police officers on [Sheridan Road in Rogers Park on] the Far North Side. Her license was suspended when she refused to take a Breathalyzer test.

... the judge dressed down Dixon for her conduct that night, telling her, "You are an elected official. You cannot behave like that." However, she added, "the issue is not whether you were obnoxious but whether there was probable cause to believe you were intoxicated." ...

During the ensuing argument, Dixon told the officers, "You don't know who I am," the officers alleged.

Dixon admitted she telephoned Ald. Joe Moore (49th), whose ward includes where the incident took place, for assistance shortly before she was arrested.

Just because this woman is a public official, she will have to kill someone before her license is lifted.

I thought a DUI arrest always resulted in a suspension, and that if you are DUI and kill someone, you are looking at a long stretch at the house of many doors.

But not if you're an elected official or wealthy celebrity. This country has become every bit as corrupt and unjust as any Ancient Regime monarchy ever was.

So, did Ald. Joe Moore tske care of her situation as fast as he has the collapsing sewer problem in Rogers Park? Or, possibly, faster?

Just asking.
