Is Mike Going To Summer Camp?

Interesting read from Tom Mannis at The Bench

From the Sun-Times

In the statement, Cardinal Francis George says he asked the Rev. Michael Pfleger, 59, to "take leave for a couple of weeks from his pastoral duties."

Frankly, it’s about time. In spite of this Sun-Times editorial, does the editorial board think we are dumb enough to swallow the opening paragraph? “The Rev. Michael Pfleger's work on the South Side of Chicago remains unfinished. It would be a shame if that work were cut short now because of his recent foolish words.”

It almost reads as though Mikes Moment at Trinity was the first time such an incident has occurred. This isn’t about Obama or Hillary, it’s about the politics of organized religion. It isn’t about Catholicism or Christianity, it’s pure undiluted politics hiding behind the cloth.

Did St. Sabina’s grow from 400 to 2,400 members based on this drama? In spite of operating a school, youth center, senior residence, food/clothing pantry and offering job training, does this organization operate on fear and hate too? Hate and fear are control mechanisms and any attempt to make a correlation between them and any form of spirituality is more than insulting.

Foolish words are expected from politicians not from priests and ministers who are supposed to guide mere lay people from the sins of being human. But alas, they have their human flaws just as we do. The only difference between lay people and clergy is we are not tax exempt.
