The Polling Place Heavy

THANKS TO CRAIG AND JAMES FOR EXPOSING THIS CHARACTER

Mr. Berryhill was fortunate, he took the day off. How unfortunate that I couldn't take the day off and harass the daylights out of him. Damn, what a missed opportunity!

I took an afternoon off two cold years ago on election day. For the 4 hours I stood in the cold, Berryhill was walking people right up to the door with his shoulder bag. He walked and talked, and handed out brochures, while Mr. F stood proudly smiling at everyone. At one point that afternoon, Berryhill entered the building! He and Fagus later were standing together laughing because 'this little woman' was mad. So I approached them reminding them that high school was over. I didn't make the rules, and the rules apply to both sides of the campaign trail.

Yes, the Berryhill tried to glare me down, but it didn't work. The election judges had heard about his antics - yet no one did a damn thing. There should be an enforcer outside this polling place in November.

Then I went inside to vote this morning, and there was my 'friend'. He's harmless, but a neighborhood small time dealer, so what goes? I doubt many people need a road map to figure out what happens North of Howard!

How dare these people call themselves Progressive, they're as Regressive to the 1930's as one can get. And they're using the low-income people as their tools. We need a group to help enlighten the voters before November...I can't do it alone.

Anyone willing to pitch in? I'm not talking about campaigning, I'm talking about showing the roadmap and all the pitfalls, lies, and threats that are not quite legal. Many don't know their rights as tenants, so how would they know their rights as voters? Many perceive the Machine as they do the Landlord...'ultimately right'. Ain't so.

If people are violating the election laws you can call the board of elections and they will send someone out or you can call the cops

toni-

thank you for your report. i also could not take time away from responsibilities to "enforce" the rules as i would have liked to noh. that will change in november. many thanks to craig and james for their dedication.

the reports from people in the 49th ward and similar reports in newspapers of "alleged hanky panky" needs to be investigated thouroghly.

i am in 100% agreement with you regarding educating our neighbors noh about their right to vote freely and without undo "influence".we have about 8 months to make sure that happens.i will do everything within my power to help this process and i believe we should coordinate our efforts. please contact me and tell me what you have in mind. i have a few ideas too.

Count the North Howard Neighbors Association in with this effort to 'educate and enforce' when it comes to voter rights and awareness NOH! Kudos for a good report, Toni.

Glad you want to contribute to voter education, thanks. Fagus and crew will work the buildings as concerned, caring folks who want to make sure people register to vote. They will ask for volunteers to help in the Greenleaf office. I attended one such meeting in 2004. However, I couldn't volunteer since I wasn't promoting Mr. F. I could, however, hand out and collect voter registration cards which I did on my trips up and down stairs all over NOH. I'll work on details and post in sometime soon.

This should be a WARD WIDE effort, and hopefully people will offer their time to create the Voters Rights Group to educate everyone with the correct information and without the intimidation.

I'd like to help out in November- I was too busy this time around. I have heard tales of the nasty down and dirty tactics of the machine, but seeing it on film really brings it home.
