Too Easy?

Plan 1
The two diminutive representatives from CPD stood in front of a standing room, only crowd of the Rogers Park faithful. They droned on about an exhaustive, conceptual study they had completed of six or seven sites along our beautiful lakefront that would be suitable for all “the increased boater demand “they expected .

They presented slides and bullet points that were not discernable to anyone in the audience. The plan was not inspiring and nor was their demeanor. The presentation went on too long and folks got restless and rude. It was somewhat understandable considering the pent up emotion inside that gymnasium. The CPD reps did their best to maintain order. When they relinquished the microphone, they stood there and took their much deserved punishment.

Rep. Osterman Speaks

His inspired, well thought out and eloquent essay, resonated with the audience. His presence commanded attention and he received it with repeated standing ovations.
Four more residents spoke of their opposition to the proposed plan and as soon as they were finished, the two CPD reps announced that the proposal was off the table.

Ald. Moore Speaks
He took the microphone and echoed what the two men had said. The plan that was being presented this night would no longer be considered, the crowed cheered at this apparent victory and some started leaving.

Too Easy

I hope I’m wrong, but I do not believe we are finished fighting this issue. I think there will be more plans to consider. Maybe one with only 300 boat slips, instead of 400.

I'm worried that this was too easy. Furthermore, who has the ulitmate say on whether the harbor plan has been shelved?
The Park District didn't give a jot about last years non-binding referendum. Is one crowd of angry people going to stop them from proposing another Marina plan next year?
I'm afraid the stake wasn't driven through the vampire's heart.

well,that's exactly my concern too.
these 2 sacrificial lambs knew they were walking into a hornets nest of opposition and it only took 4 dissenting votes for them to declare the "this" plan off the table., which was then verifiied by Mr. Moore. I'm disappointed i'm so cynical and really can't toast the apparent "victory", but we are not done with our work here. For thr CPD, to have the gall to propose that plan after the comunities' referendum only one year ago, tells me that our vote is considered irrelevant.Another plan will be presented.
your question is at the heart of the issue. "who has the ultimate say'?
thanx for commenting.

It would insulate us to develop and implement our own plan, using a non-partisan Lakefront Commision to sort out the ideas.

After we have a plan, we have a referendum to ratify it and then pressure community groups and politicians to implement it.

Otherwise, they will return with a plan of their own.

are you the james from the hellhole? i'm only asking because i just finished reading his latest post and your ideas are similar and i totally agree.
in fact, i am right in the middle of writing a piece that will post in the next day or so and we are on the same wavelength.

Yes gary, I am. I would love to team up and push this. It has legs if we avoid putting ourselves in positions of importance. I can think of about five hundred people from that meeting the other night that could serve.

Get in touch if you'd like. I'll be at the heartland after about 8 tonight watching the game. You can call me there if you'd like.
